Net distribution 3/9/2012

On 3/9/2012, Kairos 10 traveled to the eastern region of Ghana to distribute mosquito nets near the village of Ayibontey.  Women and young children were lined up waiting patiently for the nets purchased by bracelet sales in the US.  K10 founders, David and Phyllis Morris and K10 volunteers along with staff from ministry partner, Maranatha Power Ministries passed out nets to mothers, children, and elderly villagers.  It was a blessing to be in this village.

Believe Adisah, K10 beader

Her name is Believe, and she has been with Kairos since October 2010.  Originally, Bishop Odai recommended that K10 hire her as to sweep beads or other tasks, because she had no background in jewelry or beadmaking.  Today, Believe is one of K10's most proficient beaders.

Believe is from the Lake Volta region of Ghana, and comes from a large family.  She is married to Mr. Gershon Masiku, and they have three children.  Because of her success as a Kairos 10 beader, Believe is now able to send her children to private boarding school.  In her words, "So they can have an even better life than me."  Believe is the designer of the popular "Lauren" bracelet, with beautiful  purple recycled glass beads.

Christmas bead bracelet

Christmas beads are only one type of African trading bead. They are often called Children's Christmas beads, because they are worn by the children of Ghana at Christmastime.
Trading beads were once used for currency and exchange in the 16th and 17th centuries. The most widely accepted explanation is that Dutch traders brought the beads to Africa. There are many varieties of trading beads, including bauxite, white hearts, watermelon beads, and chevrons. Now these antique beads are highly sought after. (www.thebeadchest.com)

On a recent trip to Ghana in September, 2011, Kairos founders, Phyllis Morris and Katheryn Pennington met an African trading bead dealer named Ibrahim, whose family are antique bead dealers. Ibrahim met with Phyllis in March 2012 and brought his collection to TK's in East Legon where he laid out strand after strand of old trading beads. The video is of Phyllis and Yayo, Kairos' head beader negotiating with this well-known African bead dealer. Look for the old African trading beads in the beautiful new bracelets from K10!

Birthday Celebration

Happy 21st birthday to my sweet daughter, Lauren Michelle Crawley. Today the team celebrated her earthly birthday at Lauren's Lighthouse chapel in Winneba. We conducted a medical clinic, passing out life-saving mosquito nets and prayer-walking the land and surrounding area. It was a precious time. Some team members saw the church for the first time, and all of us saw it with a roof for the first time.
But the best gift of the day was that several people gave their lives to Jesus today! What a great party there must have been in heaven. Bishop Odai began the clinic by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and asking for people to respond. Then I led those who did in a prayer of salvation and commitment of their lives to Christ. Later, Courtney led two more people to respond to Christ for their salvation. Near the end of the day, I shared the Gospel with a Muslim woman named Katrina. She was not ready to turn to Christ so please be praying for her. She lives very near the church. Also, pray for the pastor of the church in Winneba. Pastor Odom has a passionate vision for reaching the lost and growing the church there.
I am so thankful to God for arranging this very special day. And thanks to the team here who love Lauren, our family, and Ghana, West Africa. I love each of them so very much.
Love to all of you who are praying for us. And especially to
Scott, Jordan, and Jonathan--I love and miss you bunches!

March Trip - Nets, Beads, and Pearls

Please join us in support and prayers for a group that will be in Ghana 3/8-3/16.  This group will be visiting the Baptist Vocational Girls' Home in Frankadua, and have the opportunity to possibly meet girls who have been recently freed from voodoo shrines this year.  Kairos desires to partner with the girls' home and create designs that will benefit the ministry, as well as carry on the vision of Kairos.

ID Ministries will accompany the Kairos team, as plans progress to build a new girls' home near Accra, the capital.  ID Ministries founder, Courtney Bullard, along with others from her team will travel to Ghana to visit the proposed site for the Pearl House, a vocational girls' home.  http://www.idministries.com/

Kairos 10 will be busy purchasing the most beautiful and unique beads in Kofoidura for the beaders to use in the newest bracelets.  Kairos will also visit the shops of our native partners, Florence at TK's and Tet at Tet's Beads.

K10 also has a net distribution planned for this trip.  Please watch the blog for updates and photos!  Thank you for your support in the mission of Kairos 10!
